State Dance Champions to be Determined in the Land of Lincoln

This Saturday, the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Competitive Dance State Finals will crown champions for the third time in history. The inaugural event in 2013 saw three different styles produce state titles in each of the three classes (1A – Lyrical, 2A – Pom, 3A – Kick). The routines continued to blend and progress in 2014 en route to a trio of new champions being crowned in Highland (1A), Geneva (2A), and Lake Park (3A).

The third annual edition of the State Finals returns to U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington on Friday, January 30 and Saturday, January 31. Friday’s prelims will feature 90 total teams (30 per class) and the Top 10 teams in each class based on Friday’s results will move on to perform again in Saturday’s finals.

Every performance this weekend will be streamed live on the NFHS Network via with a subscription or Comcast/Xfinity authentication, while recaps from Saturday’s finals will also be rebroadcast on Comcast Sports Net Chicago (click for dates/times). Two Northeastern Florida Boys Basketball Powers to Meet

On Friday, two standout Jacksonville boys basketball teams located less than six miles from each other will take to the hard court for a fierce hoops battle.

In that contest, Jacksonville Bishop Kenny (15-6 overall and 4-0 in district play) will host Jacksonville Bolles (20-1 and 7-1). Bishop Kenny is in first place in Class 5A District 3, while Bolles is in second place in Class 4A, District 3.

Two Sacramento-Area Girls Basketball Powers to Collide

Bragging rights in the California Interscholastic Federation-Sac-Joaquin Section will be on the line Friday when two standout Sierra Foothill League girls basketball teams meet.

In that contest, Loomis Del Oro High School (14-4 overall and 3-1 in league play) will host Folsom High School (15-5 and 3-2).

Two Wolverine State Conference Rival Ice Hockey Teams to Meet

This Friday, two talented Michigan Interscholastic Hockey League (MIHL) teams will take to the ice in what promises to be a highly competitive contest. In that game, The Cranbrook School (11-1-1-1) will host the University of Detroit-Jesuit (11-3) at Wallace Ice Arena.

Two Conference Rival Eastern Illinois Boys Basketball Teams to Collide

Two highly skilled Okaw Valley Conference boys basketball teams located in the shadow of the University of Illinois will duke it out for league bragging rights this Friday.

Those teams – Tolono Unity High School (10-2) and Monticello High School (8-2) – are located due south and southwest, respectively, of Champaign, Illinois, and are separated by a mere 20 miles along Highway 18.

Two Peach State Girls Hoops Teams to Play Rematch Contest

This Saturday, two outstanding Georgia girls basketball teams separated by less than 10 miles of Interstate 20 will take to the hardcourt for a second-go-round.

In that game, Covington Newton High School (11-4) will host 10-5 Conyers Salem High School. The contest marks a 2014-15 season rematch, as on December 6, Salem edged Newton, 60-59.
