It will be girls hoops galore in The Green Mountain State at the 2015 Vermont Principals’ Association (VPA) Divisions II, III and IV state championships Saturday at Barre Auditorium.
In the first game at noon Mt. St. Joseph Academy (18-1) will face off with Proctor Jr.-Sr. High School (14-5) in the Division IV championship game. Mt. St. Joseph Academy is coached by John Miller, and Chris Hughes coaches Proctor.
At 3:45 p.m., Lake Region Union High School (18-2) and Mill River (15-5) will vie for the title of 2015 Division II state champion. Joe Houston coaches Lake Region Union, while Ken Webb coaches Mill River.
The day concludes with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff between Thetford Academy (22-1) and Richford (19-4) for the VPA Division III title. Thetford is coached by Eric Ward and the Richford Rockets are coached by Jenessa Swainbank.
The defending state champions are: Division II – Mt. Abraham; Division III – Thetford; and Proctor – Division 4.
Mt. Abraham won the past two Division II state titles by nearly identical scores (Mt. Abraham 43, Fair Haven 30 in 2014; Mt. Abraham 44, BFA-Fairfax 28 in 2013). In Division III, Williamstown has been runner-up the past two years, and in Division IV, Proctor has won the past three state titles.
