The State Farm Center in Champaign will be buzzing with non-stop grappling action this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the 2015 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Wrestling Individual State Tournament.
This Saturday, the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Competitive Dance State Finals will crown champions for the third time in history. The inaugural event in 2013 saw three different styles produce state titles in each of the three classes (1A – Lyrical, 2A – Pom, 3A – Kick). The routines continued to blend and progress in 2014 en route to a trio of new champions being crowned in Highland (1A), Geneva (2A), and Lake Park (3A).
The third annual edition of the State Finals returns to U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington on Friday, January 30 and Saturday, January 31. Friday’s prelims will feature 90 total teams (30 per class) and the Top 10 teams in each class based on Friday’s results will move on to perform again in Saturday’s finals.
Every performance this weekend will be streamed live on the NFHS Network via www.IHSA.tv with a subscription or Comcast/Xfinity authentication, while recaps from Saturday’s finals will also be rebroadcast on Comcast Sports Net Chicago (click for dates/times). Two highly skilled Okaw Valley Conference boys basketball teams located in the shadow of the University of Illinois will duke it out for league bragging rights this Friday.
Those teams – Tolono Unity High School (10-2) and Monticello High School (8-2) – are located due south and southwest, respectively, of Champaign, Illinois, and are separated by a mere 20 miles along Highway 18.
This Friday, two neighboring Illinois football teams sporting glittering win-loss records and many commonalities will meet in a pivotal game.
In that contest, Athens/Greenview (6-1) will visit Williamsville (7-0) in what appears to be a very evenly matched Sangamo Conference game.
This Thursday, two nearby Northern Illinois (NIC-10) Conference boys soccer teams will meet in an early-season showdown.
In that contest, fellow Winnebago County schools Rockford Boylan Catholic High School and Machesney Park Harlem High School will take the field. Rockford is the county seat, while Machesney Park is a suburb 7.2 miles to the north along Highway 251.
The 2014 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Softball State Finals get underway this weekend as the Class 1A and Class 2A finalists meet at the Eastside Centre in East Peoria. The games will unfold on the Eastside Centre’s award-winning Mizuno Field on Friday and Saturday, June 6-7.
